Most of our international students live with host families, giving them an authentic Kiwi experience in a caring environment. We call this living in a ‘homestay’.
Living in a homestay with local New Zealanders helps students improve their English, learn about New Zealand culture, and enjoy traditional Kiwi food.
Our international team carefully selects and regularly checks these families to ensure student safety. All host families are also police-checked.
Students receive a handbook on acceptance into our programme to help them adjust to their new life. They also have an orientation day to help them when they begin school.
Every year, we also choose three International Prefects. Their job is to look after our international students and help them connect with people and opportunities while they are at Westlake Girls.
The International Department and the host families work closely to ensure that students are happy, healthy, and studying well.
